The Premier League champions Chelsea are reportedly planning a move to sign Manchester United outcast Victor Valdes on an emergency loan, according to the Daily Star.

The Blues are currently without the services of Belgian international Thibaut Courtois, who has been sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury in a training session, leaving Begovic and Jamal Blackman as the club’s available options.

Valdes, 33, joined the Red Devils on a free transfer in January – has not featured for the club since their goalless draw with Hull City on May 24, and the Spanish goalkeeper has been pushed down the pecking order after the summer arrival of Sergio Romero to Old Trafford.

The west Londoners head coach Jose Mourinho is worried about losing Begovic through injury or suspension, and is desperate to secure the signature of the former Barcelona man as cover for the Bosnian goalie.

Valdes, who is out of favour at Old Trafford has made 20 appearances for Spain.
