Sunderland have completed the signing of Ola Toivonen from Ligue 1 club Rennes on a season-long loan deal.

The 29-year-old attacking midfielder has joined the Black Cats on a season-long loan from the French side to reunite with former Dutch boss Dick Advocaat, who was in charge during his time at PSV Eindhoven.

The Sweden international, who has 43 senior caps, could make his debut in tomorrow’s Premier League trip to Aston Villa.

Toivonen has scored 14 goals in 46 appearances for Rennes.

He took to Instagram to express his delight after signing a loan deal for the English club.

Happy to sign for this amazing club!
