Borussia Dortmund have announced that the German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has signed a new contract with the Bundesliga outfit that will keep him at the Westfalenstadion until 2017.

Gundogan, 24, had just 12-months left on his previous contract, ending speculation over his possible move to Manchester United, Bayern and Barcelona.

“I’m happy that we finally have clarity and I can continue playing football for Borussia Dortmund,” the player is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. “I’ll turn my focus immediately to preparation – in August we want to attack fully again.”

Gundogan joined the club from FC Nurnberg and has made 117 appearances, scoring 12 goals and won three major trophies with Dortmund since 2011.
