Arsenal Monitor Liverpool Wonderkid Rio Ngumoha Amid £25m Interest
Arsenal have registered their interest in Liverpool’s teenage winger Rio Ngumoha, according to Football Insider, as the Gunners continue their pursuit of elite young talent across Europe.
From Cobham To Anfield
Ngumoha began his development at Chelsea’s renowned Cobham Academy, but a contractual standoff sparked a scramble for his signature. Liverpool ultimately won that battle, securing the teenager’s move to Merseyside in the summer of 2024.
His rise since then has been rapid. After shining for Liverpool’s U18 and U19 sides, he made his senior bow in January 2025, coming on in a 4-0 FA Cup victory over Accrington Stanley aged just 16 years and 135 days — the youngest player ever to start a competitive fixture for the Reds.
Since that breakthrough, the winger has racked up 35 first-team outings and produced a memorable late winner against Newcastle United last term, a strike that made him the Premier League’s fourth-youngest goalscorer, behind only James Vaughan, James Milner and Wayne Rooney. Virgil van Dijk has previously hailed him as a “special” talent, and it’s not hard to see why given his composure at such a young age.
Arsenal Weighing Up A Move
Despite his obvious promise, Ngumoha has slipped down the left-wing pecking order this season, with competition for places under Andoni Iraola proving stiff. That situation has alerted several clubs to his availability.
Transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke told the Transfer Insider podcast that Arsenal’s admiration for the youngster is hardly a shock, adding that top prospects like him inevitably draw attention from rival clubs. He also stressed that Liverpool remain relaxed and confident of tying Ngumoha down long-term, with talks over a new contract already under way with his representatives.
Arsenal’s interest fits neatly into their recent transfer philosophy, having already brought in promising youngsters such as Evan Mooney, Jaden Dixon and Vincent Joseph in recent windows. Ngumoha, valued at around £25m by Transfermarkt, would represent another statement signing in that mould.
Personally, I’d be surprised if Liverpool sanctioned a sale anywhere near that figure. Clubs rarely part with talent showing this kind of ceiling, particularly one already contributing at senior level. Arsenal’s interest may well be more about due diligence and long-term planning than an imminent bid this window.
