Juventus and Borussia Dortmund are set to battle for the signature of Chelsea’s 21-year-old Portuguese utility man Renato Veiga, according to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The versatile defender, who can operate as a centre-back, left-back, or holding midfielder, is on the radar of multiple European giants, including Marseille, Lazio, and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Veiga’s Struggles at Chelsea

Since joining Chelsea from FC Basel, Veiga has showcased glimpses of his potential despite limited opportunities. The Portuguese defender has featured in just 18 matches across all competitions this season, totaling 1,166 minutes and contributing two goals and one assist. However, his lack of regular game time has fuelled his desire to seek opportunities elsewhere.

Dortmund and Juventus’ Pursuit

Borussia Dortmund views Veiga as a solution to their defensive inconsistencies, particularly with Niklas Sule struggling for form. Additionally, his ability to play at left-back provides an alternative to Ramy Bensebaini.

Juventus, on the other hand, are in urgent need of reinforcements following Gleison Bremer’s season-ending injury and the potential departure of Danilo in the winter transfer window. The Serie A club has reportedly opened talks with Chelsea to bring Veiga to Turin.

Veiga’s Preference

Reports suggest that Renato Veiga favours a move to Borussia Dortmund, prioritising regular game time to develop as a centre-back. While Juventus remains a strong contender, Dortmund’s proactive discussions with Chelsea might give them the edge in this transfer saga.

As the January transfer window approaches, it will be intriguing to see where the talented defender lands.
