Liverpool are set to open talks with Barcelona this week over the possible sale of Luis Suarez to the Spanish giants.

The Uruguayan has been Liverpool’s best player for the past three years and was a key part of their title push last season. However, now is the time to cash in on the player.

Suarez was in the press for all the wrong reasons during the World Cup, despite finding two goals to help knock England out of the competition. Once again his discipline let him down, and with his latest biting scandal; it is very difficult for the Premier League club to defend their man over his latest actions.

Speculation has been building all summer about Suarez’s future even before the World Cup. It’s not the first time that the striker has looked for a move away from Anfield. The owners stood firm last time despite £40 million plus offers on the table for their star. Fortunately for Liverpool, that value has almost doubled since then and he is now worth in the region of £80 million.

If Barcelona do put an official offer on the table, Liverpool would be wise to accept. Not only would that allow them to breaker a deal for Alexis Sanchez to move to Merseyside, but manager Brendan Rodgers is likely to also have further funds available to him in which he can invest into his team.

Liverpool were not far short from winning the Premier League title last season and with the addition of Sanchez and a couple more world class signings, they could be a decent favourites to win the 2014/15 title. Rodgers’ young squad would have learned from their disappointment in the 2013/14 campaign and may be able to use to it to see the job out this time around.
