Arsenal targeting Man United centre-back Chris Smalling

Arsenal are closely monitoring the rise of Manchester United starlet Chris Smalling.

The Gunners have reportedly “explored” the possibility of signing the 28-year-old defender from Manchester United in the summer transfer window, according to The Daily Star.

The north Londoners are interested in signing the England international as manager Arsene Wenger looks to reinforcements to his defensive options ahead of next season.

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has signed a new long-term contract, which will keep him at the club until June 2019, the Premier League club have confirmed.

The 25-year-old England international, whose previous deal was due to expire in 2016 has been rewarded with a new contract for his improved form this season, scoring four goals – better than any other United defender.
