Bayer Leverkusen defender Emir Spahic has extended his stay at the BayArena by signing a new one-year contract with the club.

The 34-year-old centre back, who joined the Bundesliga club from Sevilla last summer, but his impressive displays helped him to remain at the BayArena until the summer of 2016.

“I’m part of a great team here in Leverkusen,” the Bosnia and Herzegovina international told the club’s website. “We’ve got an ambitious side that can still develop and I believe there is plenty we can still achieve together.

“I feel very settled in Leverkusen and would like to use my experience to help our young team.”

Spahic has scored three goals in 30 appearance for Leverkusen. He also won 77 caps for his country.
