Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen is reportedly set for a move to rival club Manchester United this summer, according to reports from the Express.

The Belgium international has been strongly linked with a move to the Red Devils for some time and the Gunners having placed a £12m price-tag for the 28-year-old centre-back as their manager Arsene Wenger looks to splash out the cash for another defender as a replacement.

Arsenal captain has been at the Emirates Stadium for five years, scored 15 goals – provided six assists in 150 appearances for the North London Club since he joined the Gunners in 2009 from Ajax.

The defender, who is currently on duty with Belgium World Cup squad in Barzil and the report claims that the player is likely to make a switch to Old Trafford after the summer’s tournament.

It is understood newly appointed United manager Louis van Gaal is keen to sign the central-defender this summer in order to bolster his squad ahead of next season, a deal in the region of £12million is something that the Red Devils wouldn’t let it go easily.

Manchester United will start their Premier League 2014-15 campaign at Old Trafford against Swansea City.
